Balenciaga: A Day Out for Teachers - Part of D&T Week
After a morning tea, enjoy exhibition exploration, networking and learning about the historical contexts of Balenciaga after viewing an introductory curator presentation.
This afternoon practical workshop will focus on collaboration to create a range of garments inspired by the Balenciaga exhibition and will enable teachers to approach designing in a variety of ways. Participants will work in a team and use design thinking strategies to develop and design a range of evening wear, for a different user (children, older adults, for adults in a wheelchair, gender neutral adults, graffiti artist) that is inspired by an element of Balenciaga's style.
They will begin by creating a collaborative mood board to capture elements of Balenciaga to bring to a range of clothes, then use layering and colleage, form and sculptural elements and expressive drawing to develop prototypes/designs to present to the group.
This workshop is suited to art, design and textiles teachers from Year 7 -12. The range of approaches could be modified to suit a variety of classroom environments, with teachers coming away with ideas and skills about how to apply ideas in Balenciaga's ethos into fashion, art and design classrooms.
