Big Wool Day Out - Ethical Fashion (PL1915)
DATTA VIc and the National Wool Museum are delighted to announce details of the 2019 Big Wool Day Out - our annual professional learning day for teachers of Textiles.
This year, we'll be exploring the world of Ethical Fashion, hearing from industry practitioners about human rights, sustainability and fair trade. We'll share ideas on activities to engage your students in the social, ethical, economic & sustainability considerations in the development of textiles products. We'll celebrate the approach of Aboriginal designers to the natural world and the use of resources and inspire you with upcycling ideas for classroom projects.
Our presenters include:
- Laura Newman from Oxfam, talking about the What She Makes program and their related school resources
- Sonya Rand, Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing Manager of Cotton On, talking about the Rana Plaza Accord and their Ethical Framework
- Tarni Jarvis, former Ballarat High School student whose dance dress for her Indigenous troup VCE PD&T work Parramal Puna Punai (Little Emu Girl) was selected for this year's Top Designs exhibition.
- Zowie Mozelen from Ivanhoe Grammar on sustainability and upcycling in the textiles D&T curriculum
