Design & Technologies in Minecraft (PL2135)

DATTA Vic is working with the Department of Education and Training to develop a schools' design challenge using Minecraft: Education Edition, which will be launched in term 4 – just in time for Design & Technologies Week! The program will be open for all students in Years 5/6 and Years 7/8. It can be done in-school or online and can take place over several weeks or during intensive sessions as part of your Design and Technologies Week program. 

To help prepare you to get involved in this fantastic opportunity, we are running a series of professional learning webinars. These sessions will cover year 5/6 and 7/8 Design and Technologies Minecraft project resources and offer you a hands-on guide to using Minecraft with your students. 

You’ll discover: 

  • Using Minecraft as a collaborative design tool 
  • Meeting the needs of different end users 
  • Authentic, real-world problem solving 
  • Victorian Curriculum links 
  • Teachers and student resources. 
  • Assessment strategies and rubrics 
  • Networking with D&T educators from across the state 
  • A discussion on effective digital tools for teaching Design & Technologies and STEM

  • 4pm – 5.30pm, September 15th

Presented by Peter Murphy and Lauren Arkley.

Peter has worked in Technologies and STEM leadership roles in the Catholic and Government education sectors. He now lectures in Technologies education at La Trobe and Southern Cross Universities and in Industrial Design at RMIT University. Peter has also worked extensively with VCAA and ACARA over the years on state and national curriculum. He founded Design and Technologies Week in Australia and national competitions “So You Think You Can Design” and “TECx” (Technologies Education Challenge). He also helped to establish the Victorian Premier's Design award for VCE Product Design and Technologies and was a judge for the Prime Minister's Prizes for Science. 

Lauren is a Senior Project Officer in the Digital Learning Services Unit at the Department of Education and Training Victoria. Lauren is an experienced primary school teacher and is leading the implementation of Minecraft: Education Edition across Victorian government schools.
