In this workshop participants will be introduced to design thinking as a pedagogical model for teaching. Design thinking is a versatile inquiry model used to solve problems or design products to suit user needs. In this hands-on workshop, teachers will learn the design thinking model by creating a product to solve a problem, allowing them to experience the day as students. Facilitators will also break down each activity to discuss the learning intentions and goals behind each activity. These activities are often used by facilitators at the Tech School to push students through a design cycle to come up with innovative solutions to problems. The model is a great way to structure design unit courses as each stage moves students towards a product that is fit for purpose.
This workshop is a perfect introduction for teachers looking for a practical framework to use in inquiry and in delivering the Design & Technologies curriculum.
