  This program is intended to build practical Design & Technologies skills in students of the RMIT Masters of Teaching Practice (Secondary Education)

  There will be a focus on developing experience in using hand-tools and some essential woodwork machinery as well as in emerging technologies - all in the context of the Victorian Years 7-10 Design & Technologies curriculum.

  Participants will also have to chance to focus on OH&S issues and classroom management, and will be introduced to relevant Department of Education policies and procedures.

  This will assist students on their placements and help prepare them for their first teaching roles.

  The timetable is as follows, although note there may be changes made to accommodate specific needs;

  • Week 1 : OH&S Risk Assessments 
  • Week 2 : Hand Tools and Materials
  • Week 3 : Power Tools and Student Machines
  • Week 4 : 3D printing and CNC machine

  This workshop will help prepare students for the end of the year VCE Systems Engineering exam. It will focus on:

  • a refreshment of Unit 3 & 4 outcomes
  • relevant information from the examiner's reports and previous exams
  • a range of helpful student activities
  • sharing hints and tips to gain the best results
  • lots of exam revision resources to keep

  Jo will explore the pioneering leaps in technologies made by the ancient Greeks. From automated machines and musical instruments to architectural marvels and hydraulic engineering, you'll learn how their technological ingenuity laid the foundation for countless modern advancements.

  Then at the DATTA Vic AGM, you'll get to hear about the work we've been doing on behalf of our members over the past year. This meeting offers you the chance to have a say in the running of YOUR association.

  Welcome to our first ever network especially for Design & Technologies Technicians!

  Technicians in Victorian schools carry out a wide range of tasks - from maintaining equipment and preparing materials to ordering resources and supporting student with their projects. They need to be confident across a range of materials and processes, including hand tools, plant and machinery, textiles equipment and emerging technologies such as CAD, 3D printing and laser cutting.

  We know many technicians are the only person in that role at a school, and the opportunity to share ideas and discuss issues with their peers is limited. Therefore DATTA Vic is establishing a regular forum where techs can come together online as a community of practice.

  
  

  We're delighted that for this first meeting, we'll start with a presentation by Di Christensen, the Arts & Technology technician at Wurun Senior Campus. Di will share her own practice, with a particular focus on her role in setting up a new facility and managing the 3D printing and laser cutting equipment.

  There there will be time to discuss common issues for techs, including OH&S and risk management, upskilling opportunities and supporting classroom management.

  Advancing Biomaterials for a Sustainable Future with Compound

  What if the materials we design with could regenerate ecosystems rather than deplete them?
  

  
  

  Compound is a Melbourne-based studio established by industrial designer Vasundhara Gaur and software engineer Simon Beirouti, which develops new materials from kelp. By working at the intersection of biomaterials, systems thinking and circularity, their aim is to create ethical products, healthier environments and a more resilient future for all. In this keynote presentation, Vasundhara and Simon will share their own journeys in design and engineering that led them to create Compound. You’ll learn from them about the science and design potential of biomaterials, and how they employ systems thinking and regenerative design principles to reflect the interconnected relationships between materials, production, people and the environment. There are also 24 hands-on workshops and seminars running throughout the day.
