DATTA Vic has compiled a list of resources to encourage all students, no matter their gender, identity, ethnicity or disability status to engage in Design & Technologies and STEM education. |
Careers in Design & Engineering Toolkits DATTA Vic created these resources in partnership with RMIT and Monash University. They feature a diverse cohort of young people who are pursuing further study and careers in the fields of design and engineering. They are designed to promote VCE PD&T and VCE Systems Engineering to middle year students. |
Positive Role Models and Professional Practice DATTA Vic has collated a web page focusing on the professional practice of positive role models in design and engineering. It’s a great tool to focus on the importance of human-centred design, as well as providing case studies of diverse innovators. |
The Girls in STEM Toolkit (GiST) GiST is a fantastic resource to engage girls in STEM. It's packed full of activities, resources and lesson plans, with content designed for students, teachers and families. |
THE ATSE STELR Project has produced some fantastic resources to encourage girls to pursue further education in the STEM fields. These include a range of STEM modules and a series of video profiles featuring female role models and entrepreneurs from STEM fields, which include engineers and roboticists.

National Design & Technologies Week National Design & Technologies Week takes place each year across the different states, but the website is live all year round, and includes a great resources library on Diversity in STEM. |
Resources & Opportunities – Girls in STEM The Australian Academy of Science runs a STEM Women program, where they have collated a range of resources to inspire and encourage girls into STEM careers. |
Questacon has produced a Girls in STEM Smart Skills resource which shares the stories of some inspiring women who work in science and technology. |
Each year, Science and Technology Australia select 60 Superstars of STEM as they aim to smash society’s gender assumptions about STEM professionals and increase the public visibility of women in STEM. As well as offering great role models for young students, schools can request for a superstar to visit and speak.

She Maps is an Australian initiative that uses drone-based activities to engage girls in technology. They run incursions and excursions, teacher professional development and sell drones to schools for educational use. |

CSIRO – STEM Professionals in Schools STEM Professionals in Schools is Australia’s largest national volunteering program for STEM professionals and classroom educators. The program facilitates flexible, ongoing partnerships between science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals and teachers in schools across Australia. |
Founded by Corey Tutt, Deadly Science aims to break down the barriers to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander youth participating in STEM. As well as their shop, they have some fantastic free resources for teachers to download, including Renewable Resources and a teacher guide to inclusion and engagement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people represent 2.5% of the Australian population, but just 0.5% of total engineering students. Engineers Without Borders have developed Stories of Indigenous Engineering to increase diversity in the engineering profession and open our eyes to different knowledge systems and perspectives. |
Engineer Girl is an interactive website from the USA created by the National Academy of Engineering. It aims to showcase engineering as a career for girls.

This challenge is a funded work experience intensive for teams of Year 10 students to work on real world challenges with professional engineering companies. It’s a fantastic way to engage more young people in an engineering career. |
This slide set tells the stories of a diverse group of 20 women who work in various STEM roles. |
Inspiring Women in STEM Posters Nevertheless has published a free range of downloadable posters featuring female STEM leaders. They include Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel in space and Cynthia Breazeal, pioneer of social robotics and human-robot interaction. |
