Resource for VCE Product Design & Technologies - Ethical & Speculative Design Dr Leah Heiss is an award-winning designer, researcher and visiting CSIRO scientist/designer who works at the nexus of design, health and emerging technologies. Her previous works include jewellery to administer insulin and swallowable devices to detect disease. The Facett hearing aid, which Leah designed for Blamey Saunders hears, won the 2018 Australian Good Design Award and CSIRO Design Innovation Award. The form was inspired by the mineralogy collection at Museums Victoria, achieving Leah's aim of shifting hearing aids "from disability to desirability." In this recording, which is a great resource for teaching VCE PD&T, Leah takes us through her professional practice, including her processes for researching and evaluating products and her collaborations with engineers, health care professionals and more, her commitment to human-centred design and her immersion in speculative processes to develop her unique pieces of wearable technology.
