- Free for DATTA Vic Members ONLY
Sustainability is at the heart of our entire learning area, from the early years right through to VCE PD&T and Systems Engineering.
In P-10, students create design solutions for a sustainable future.
In VCE Systems, they develop systems engineering processes that improve environmental sustainability.
And in the new VCE PD&T , the circular economy and ethical product design are key concepts that underpin the entire study design.

Replas is an Australian company specialising in delivering sustainable recycled plastic products for built environments and public domain spaces.
Established in regional Victoria, Replas is built on innovative, leading-edge technologies developed by our team over 40 years, repurposing end-of-life plastic into durable products that can themselves be recycled, closing the loop for a truly circular outcome.
We're delighted to welcome Chris Smith from Replas who will present at this very special free event for our members. Chris will share the history of the company, the science behind working with recycled plastics and the innovative products they develop. He'll share why Replas is a fantastic example of the circular economy and the drive to eliminate plastic waste that we are lucky to have right her in our own back yard!
Throughout 2024, DATTA Vic will be collaborating with Sustainability Victoria on a series of free members' webinars focussing on sustainable and ethical design. These sessions are designed for teachers of the new VCE PD&T study design, and will address the 6 Sustainability Frameworks and Strategies outlined in the key knowledge:
- 6Rs: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair
- circular economy
- cradle-to-cradle approach
- Design for Disassembly (DfD)
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
- lifecycle analysis/assessment (LCA)
- triple bottom line
This program will also support teachers of VCE Systems Engineering, who aim to teach students about new or emerging developments in systems engineering processes that improve economic and environmental sustainability.
Teachers of P-10 Design & Technologies will also benefit from these sessions, as they explore the social, ethical and sustainability considerations that impact on designed solutions for global preferred futures and the complex design and production processes involved.
