  This professional learning workshop is open to beginners of metal work as well as teachers who need a refresher. During this session you will create 2 x metal rings (round profile and flat profile).

  You will learn how to use the equipment and skills required to measure, cut, shape, solder and finish your metal work! 

  ALSO, this is quite a special professional learning workshop as you will be guided by the talented Anna Varendorff, who we can safely say is a celebrity in the jewellery world here in Melbourne and overseas! 

  Anna Varendorff is an artist, designer and educator working in Melbourne, Australia. She works between conceptual jewellery, installation, sculpture, design and production.

  In 2016 she founded the design practice ACV studio. She has exhibited in Australia and Internationally since 2004 including at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and with Local Design in Milan in 2017, 2018 and 2019. ACV Studio’s work Glass Half Full Vase was the winner of a 2018 Wallpaper* designer of the year award, and in 2018/19 ACV studio was a Lane Crawford Creative Call Out winner.

  This one day, free intensive for years 7-10 Design & Technologies teachers nurtures excellence in design education in Victoria.

  Supported by Creative Futures Ltd this special workshop is free for teachers and jointly facilitated by Museums Victoria Education and DATTA Vic. 

  Teachers will experience the world of the museum, particularly the Pauline Gandel Children's Gallery and the  Lego Star Wars exhibition. You'll then explore the concept of inclusive design, and work together to discover new ways to deliver the Design & Technologies curriculum in your own classrooms, inspiring their students to design for an equitable future while learning from the past.

  Studying the Technologies equips students to design, create, use and evaluate innovative solutions that meet current and future needs using a range of technologies.

  CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software is crucial in design and engineering, enabling the creation of 2D and 3D models, facilitating design visualisation and evaluation while streamlining the design process. 

  Fusion 360 is a cloud-based, 3D CAD and CAM software developed by Autodesk, used for modelling, simulation, and documentation, particularly for product design and manufacturing. The education plan gives eligible students and teachers free access to Autodesk software for educational purposes. 

  
  

  In this full day hands-on workshop, Yarra Ranges Tech School Director Travis Burroughs will take you through all you need to get started and then advance beyond beginners' level in your classroom teaching.

  You'll explore the use of the software for designing, and exporting these files to be produced by a laser cutter or 3D printer. You'll learn about real world examples of classroom projects created with Fusion 360, and will go back to school with more confidence to get your students using this technology.

  DATTA Vic is delighted to once again delighted to deliver our Success with Systems Engineering Masterclass program during the September school break.

  Systems Engineering offers a great way to deliver STEM learning opportunities that equip young people with the skills they'll need for a global, technology-driven and flexible future.

  However, Victorian schools are facing barriers to successful delivery, including dropping numbers of student enrolments at VCE and a lack of qualified teachers in the Design & Technologies learning area.

  Our Success with Systems Engineering program has four aims:

  • To upskill teachers from other STEM areas (Design & Technologies, Physics, etc) to deliver engaging and relevant Systems Engineering programs

  • To support schools who are struggling to recruit Systems Engineering teachers
    

  • To explore ways to attract and retain a more diverse cohort of students in Systems Engineering
  • To offer support to schools to set up VCE Systems Engineering as a senior subject

  We'll also be taking a look at the new 2026 study design, to ensure our participants are ready to implement it for next year.

  Registrations are open now to participate in this teacher masterclass, which will run in the term break from 22-25 September

  CONFERENCE KEYNOTE We're delighted to announce our keynote presenter for 2025 Systems Engineer and satellite designer Robert Mearns of Melbourne Space Lab.  Melbourne Space Lab develops technological solutions to nanosatellites. It is a leader in nanosatellite research and development in Australia, with a focus on scientific investigation and commercial opportunities.

  Rob has worked on a range of space technologies projects, including the Skyhopper, a pioneering cubesat space telescope to find planets around other stars, and the SpIRIT (Space Industry – Responsive – Intelligent – Thermal) nano-satellite, an Australia-Italy mission supported by the Australian Space Agency.

  
  

  In his keynote, Rob will explore his role in spacecraft design with Melbourne Space Lab, chart his own unusual journey from agriculture to engineering and explore the roles of designers and engineers in Australia's ventures into space exploration.
